Hand-Turned Scorched Irish Ash Bowl with Natural Detailing
Experience the striking intersection of fire and fine woodturning with this contemporary statement bowl. Hand-turned in my County Meath workshop, this piece is crafted from native Irish Ash and features an intentionally scorched rim and exterior, using a traditional charring technique to create a deep, textured, velvet-black frame.
Inside, the bowl opens up to reveal the magnificent, silky grain of natural pale ash, accented by a rich olive-brown heartwood flush at the base. I have mindfully preserved the natural cracks and shifts within the wood, celebrating them as a beautiful record of the timber’s life and drying process.
With its bold contrast and tactile charred texture, this artistic bowl serves as a magnificent standalone sculpture for a modern sideboard, desk, or entry table.

Caring for your piece
Every piece is finished with natural, food-safe oil. Wipe it clean with a damp cloth and dry it straight away. Never put it in the dishwasher or leave it soaking. Every few months, rub in a little food-safe mineral oil or board butter to keep the grain fed and the colour deep. Looked after this way it will last for generations.
